The smoke unit has two different modes: A short, "start-up" blast, and another longer one that simulates the boiler letting off steam (both with appropriate sound effects). Both can be triggered from the DCS remote. Both will occur occasionally in conventional mode.

It is a pretty strong plume of smoke.

Well yeah, the steam heater may have, but yeah, it shouldn't have made much smoke.

The GG1 did have a boiler to make steam to heat a passenger train. I wouldn't expect it to make much smoke, however.

Today, I got an e-mail from trains.com It was the Classic Toy Trains part. There were some new video clips on there, one of them being an MTH GG-1. I watched the video and I liked it, but I can't understand something. Why is there a smoke device on it. It showed it releasing smoke from the top of the backside. How can an electric locomotive produce smoke? I am baffled [?]
