Does the forum or the CTT website have an RSS news feed?

No, it's Railsounds Service. These fancy electronics almost never work properly.

I don't think there's enough news for an RSS feature!

Ah, you're probably selling yourself short, Bob - maybe crafting this one level up encompassing all trains.com stuff.

RSS or "Really Simple Syndication" news feeds are an excellent idea. An RSS pipeline from the toy train manufacturers to give news about their products (and managed by them) would be a good place to start.

We offer RSS news feeds on our homepage via XML. On www.army.mil go to the right side of the page and about halfway down you will see the RSS button to click.

Excellent idea, Doug.

I just had a meeting with the hi-tech wizard Army contractors and they told me that RSS feeds DO NOT require extra manpower or money.

CTT COULD provide this feature if they wished on their homepage like we provide our readers. The RSS news feed on your personal computer would use a "reader," a free product like Quick Time or Acrobat PDF readers etc etc, that would link to any entity offering RSS news or informational feeds.

For example, if Lionel decided to offer news releases on its products, they could provide these and an RSS reader, via the CTT site, would automatically pick up the news item and enable you or me to see it.

It is a win-win situation for all. Lionel would have another venue to offer its products, CTT would get more hits and reads on its website (more traffic) and you the consumer, would get (if you wish) product information.

Once Lionel offered the service, MTH would certainly want to provide their product news as would Atlas and K-Line, creating a cascading effect.

Again, I'll emphasize that NO money or manpower is involved in providing RSS news feeds as a service.

The Army home page offers RSS news feeds from organizations like CNN and our own office of public affairs news releases. They are updated every 10 minutes and the process is automatic.
