Thank you NEIL. The heat is starting to disapate and some of the jerkyness is gone. I will add a few drops of oil to the motors as stated in the manual and see if this will work. Maybe they didnt pre oil at facyory or oil dried. It is starting to run longer without jerkyness.

Do your lights flicker when the jerkiness occurs? Does it also happen you run the engine in conventional mode? If it runs good for 25 minutes, I doubt it's a gear problem. It might be heating up too much and causing the ACDR unit to falter. Make sure you tell the repair person that it works OK for 25 minutes otherwise it may have a quick turnaround with nothing done!

Laz,

I'd definitely take it back to the dealer. There's gotta be something wrong internally,.

Laz,

I know this sounds silly, but did you install the pantographs on your GG-1 yet? I had a similar problem with my Majestic GG-1 and the dealer told me that the pantographs are part of the TMCC signal receiving process. I installed them and my GG-1 has ran great ever since. Just a thought.

Hello Laz ! It sounds like one of the Alnico Magnets for the Magne-Traction maybe rubbing against one or more of the Drive Wheels and was not properly stacked in place at the Factory. Your Best bet should be to call Lionel & ask for a return form or if it came from a local dealer take it back to them. I have a hunch this is the problem with your GG-1. Good Luck to you................Keith

BUCKEYE thanks for the insight, but the problems are in both directions. Also I get a lot of heat build up after about 30 minutes of run time.
OH BUCKEYE the check is in the mail (wink).

LAZ, do I understand it works okay in reverse? If it runs great in one direction and crappy in the other direction, I would guess that a pickup or a connection might be the problem.

Just send it to me with the $1,000 you owe me for winning the GO FISHING WITH BUCKEYE CONTEST and I will get it fixed for you.[:)]

DOUG,
Thanks for the thought but that was the first thought in my mind and I did clean up the track and checked the connections and still the same result.

Laz, does anything else lurch or hesitate like that? Or is it happening on the same stretch of track? From my personal experience, sometimes my engines seem to need to 'warm up' a bit - or alternatively, there's nothing wrong with the engine but maybe that part of track has to be cleaned or there is something that is causing power to drop there.

Majestic GG1 problem?
Posted by laz 57 on Monday, May 16, 2005 8:09 AM
I bought a Lionel GG1 from the Majestic set. My problem is that it lurches and hesitates going around the layout. I oiled and applied grease to all the points as suggested in the manual and even added oil to the motors, but still the same result. I ran it in reverse for a number of laps and then forward still the same result. Any help would be appricated.
