Since many people probably bought them to run under the Xmas tree, I'd guess they WOULD be stored for 11 months. The movie will be re-released again this year. If you want a set, buy it now ($220. at my dealer, less on eBay...but watch the ship cost). Some smart dealer is selling new sets minus track and transformer on eBay for people like us. They seem to be going for about $175. Joe

I wouldn't be surprised if they did start showing up at garage sales or at second hands stores eventually. Hopefully they will. I also think that the Bachmann HO Harry Potter sets are an item that will soon start showing up at these places very frequently.

"Today I saw my first Polar Express, in the box, stored in a basement. No big deal, but it starts me wondering how many of those sets are out there and when they will become garage sale fodder. "

Probably not in many, if any, appearing in garage sales this summer or fall, but for sure you'll be able to find some turning up there a couple of years from now, and beyond.

My first run in with a Polar Express

I 'm a painter by trade and run into alot of cool stuff in peoples basements. There have been a few customers that have a train layout or old 4x8 plywood train board leaning against a wall. Today I saw my first Polar Express, in the box, stored in a basement. No big deal, but it starts me wondering how many of those sets are out there and when they will become garage sale fodder.

A few years ago I was seeing alot of G scale sets and more recently have seen alot of Rokenbock stuff. And the king of all kids toys I see in my work is Thomas and Brio. Seems like every family I work for with kids under 5 has a full compliment of Thomas gear.

One thing about the LGB and Lionel trains is people save them for years. Can't really think of another toy that pweople hang onto so dearly.

I'm sure I will start running into more Polar Express sets packed away in basements.
