The problem you refer to with the #164 Log Loader is the most troublesome part of that accessory. The unloader meachanism works with a solenoid that is spring loaded, which activates the folded metal stakes.

Make sure the solenoid is clean: try using some TV Spray Tuner Cleaner. Also try activating this part of the accessory manually to see if everything functions. If you had it working recently, then it may be something more likely mechanical than a problem with the soldnoid. The metal stakes may need to be recrimped. Also check the assembly of the unloading mechanism which includes the pipes or rods, the pivots and where they join. There is an activating shaft between the metal stakes that is held with sheet metal fasteners... they need to be tight enough to hold everything in place while still allowing normal movement.

The release mechanism bears some similarity to those used with the Lionel solenoid operated log dump cars: the short sheetmetal postwar ones or the ones recently reissued by Lionel.

Parts should be readily available for this accessory from a parts vendor.

I can't tell you too much about the log loader, but if you are referring to a ZW transformer, you can buy a rebuild kit from Olsen's in Lakewood, OH. They have a web page. To repair it requires a tear down. The carbon wheels inside probably need to be replaced. It's good to do all four while you have it apart. I'm sure someone else can help you with the loader.
