Yes, Chris, they all match. The milk car has the bare metal doors. The tender is a 12 wheeler. Sounds good. Thanks.

Let's try this one -

Set 2141WS 4-Car Freight Train (1949) consisted of the following:

671 Pennsylvania Turbine
2671W tender
3461 Operating lumber car
3472 Operating milk car with platform
6456 Lehigh Valley hopper
6457 Lionel Caboose

Do the numbers of the other cars on this list match what you have?

The 681 Turbine was made in 1950, 51, and then again in '53. The one-year gap is a result of magnetic material shortages from the Korean war, in which Lionel temporarily reverted to the production of the non-magnetraction 671.

It's entirely possible that your set was a department store special, as Lionel often made, which would account for variations from the set that Frank looked up. I know that some reference materials exist out there for the various department store sets, but I don't know any right off the top of my head.

You're right, Doug. I have a Boom Box piped in and a tape of Fats. I've been looking for a " Fats " car, but no such luck, yet. I grew up with his music too.

With a handle of "Blueberryhill" if you have a layout you have to have Fats Dominoe on there somewhere..[:D]
Sorry couldn't resist, grew up listening to his music.

Thanks, Frank53. That sounds about right. I'm curious, about what was inconsistant. When did the 681 come out?

Although there are some inconsistencies between your description and the reference materials I have, it appears it could be a 2187ws, which is teh only set I located with a 671 and 6457.

offered in 1952.

Lionel Train Set
Posted by Blueberryhill RR on Wednesday, April 27, 2005 11:20 AM
When I was a kid, in the early 1950's, my Dad bought me my first Lionel train set. It was an " 0 " guage set with a # 671 engine and 12 wheel tender with " Pennsylvania " on it. The set had an operating milk car, operating log car, black hopper car and a # 6457 caboose. It came with an oval of track and a " RW " transformer. Now, can anyone tell me what the set number was and what year it was available?

Thanks, Chuck
P.S. I still have it and it still runs good.
