Restore a 2340 GG-1 or Not? HELP!

Hello FEC ! I do not exactly remember which issue Len was profiled in as it was at least 3-4 years ago, However he has written numerous articles for CTT on How to ID fakes and to show the differences between Originals and Restorations.(Mainly F3s & GG1s) Maybe Bob or Neil can let you know which issue Len is featured in. Thanks guys! I think I will have Len do it. He's the best from what I have heard. I'm 25 so I plan on having this item for a long time so I think this is the way to go. Some day I want my grand kids to play with this thing! Does anyone know the issue that Len was featured in.

The Doctor is In !!! In my humble opinion: It is your loco. That being said, If the paint is as bad as you say, then let a pro repaint it and have it marked inside the shell. Even with a restored shell, it will always have a higher vaule than a newer one. Just make sure that it cannot be passed off as orginal. There are collectors who have items that have been restored, don't worry. The next generation will thank you for saving the GG-1.

Well ,it is your loco and you can do what you wish with it,having said that,The paint flaking looks pretty bad to me and looks like it will progress in the future.If It was mine I would have one of the professionals who advertise in CTT restore it to its former glory!If you plan to sell it in the future.however,do not touch it as any restoration will compromise collector value to some degree.Since the gg-1 is one of my all-time favorite engines,I hope you will consider having it restored and post pictures of it upon it's completion.

Hello FECLionel ! If you have the money then a cosmetic restoration should do.Len Carperelli can help you out as CTT did a profile on him a few years ago and he does very good work. Just look up his phone# and address in a current CTT and He'll take care of everything for you..................Keith

I just purchased a very nice one owner 2340 Tuscan GG-1. The item would be in excellent condition plus( stripes are still very present) if it did not have paint flaking and bubbles. The paint is original and the chassis and electronics are in like new condition. However, I feel bad even touching this item since some paint might flake off. what would you recommend? Take a look at the pics. Also does anyone have info on Mr. Weltz?
