still four notches one atleast last years locomotives, I listened in person to a SD35 and the sound is NOT correct, no turbo wine at all, just generator wine that is a distinct featrue of the older EMD locomotives, but not of the turbo charged locomotives. The old DRGW Lionel with RS2 was the best in the turbo sounds. I dont think the newer EMD sounds are that great. Just my 2 cents. Mike

4 Notches.

The sound set in Atlas' GP35's/SD35's/GP60's ARE SD50 sound sets. Lionel will only release certain sounds. NOTHING Atlas/Kline/3rd rail/Weaver can do.

The s-2, i have the SBD version is a fine model and sounds are dead on. Same with the SCL GP30 I own.

LGBF7,

I have not heard the latest Railsounds Diesel sounds. Did they, at least, make the change from four to eight throttle notches?

The local tourist line has a S2, they have a 539 series prime mover with turbo charger, and the sound isnt even close on the one I listend to, B&O version, Like I said, I am unimpressed with the newer asian built Lionels. Right now its a toss up between a Southern Pacific GP9 or the DRGW SD50, one with RS 2 and one with RS 2.5, both have good old fashioned pulmor motors! Leaning toward the GP 9 and fitting her with Richmond Controls full SP lighting package with duel clear gyralight and red single gyralight in reverse. Cheers Mike

Wait until york and see the QSI site and their new offering for 3 rail and the widest range of sounds anywhere. I know as I have recorded many of them.
Anyone know where I can get a sound of a GE dash 8 air pump?
They get that detailed as HO people demand it. We are too dumb to demand it, we just buy what is available at the highest prices in the industry.
Notice I included myself, but then 90 % of my engines have qsi 3000's and sounds are vast. Dave.

Atlas can really only work with what Lionel gives them, which is pretty limited. The list at http://www.digitdynam.com/f_railsounds.htm is about all that's available to anyone other than Lionel.

Regarding the S-2, I seem to recall reports from several people who had been around such an engine in operation that the sounds were right on target. Perhaps I'm not remembering correctly, though, as they've been out for a while.

I went and looked at several newer diesels today at the local shop. All had the newest version of Lionel's railsounds in them. The alco s-2 didn't sound right, the atlas O SD35 has GP9 sounds as does the new GP60, come on folks!! If I am going to spend $400 on a new loco, lets get the sounds right! A GP60 does not even sound close to a GP9. The old non scale Lionel DRGW SD50 that I am looking at buying is right on target, nice strong turbo sounds, and its only has Railsounds 2!! The new Lionel S-2 sounded like a cross between thier alco RS11 and a GP9. The new GP30 sounds good, as does thier other SD locos. Seems like a hit or miss type thing, A total miss on Atlas O's part. I guess I will stay with the older American built Lionels, they sound better and have much less to go wrong with them. The Asian built stuff has never really impressed me. Cheers MIke
