Post it if you dare, but be aware that Maury D. keeps a legal team on retainer and he doesn't hesitate to use them.

You might be better off posting the image from Williams' latest brochure. They're also offering a "Black Warbonnet." Jerry Williams likely wouldn't mind at all.

Another "worth looking at" issue, is the March 2003 CTT. There's a centerfold ad inside the front cover of K-Line's rendition of the Black F3 that never was...

I must say this is a might fine looking train....

I scanned a copy of this centerfold, but wasn't sure if it would be ok to post it. What do you guys think? Should I post it?

Well I wasn't too far off. It was in Oct. 2002 issue of CTT. Page 44.

It was just a article thing that was in the questions & answers section, that also included a pic of the black engine with a red/yellow warbonnet sceme, as it appeared in the '48 catalog. Here's the pic: http://ca.geocities.com/ambassador_martok/1dayfiles/black-f3.jpg

About the same time in 2002, K-Line came out with a Sant Fe F3 based on this fictious Lionel catalog Color scheme.-- K-25303 F3 A-B-A outfit with Lionel railsounds and Train master systems, and costs 600.00 bucks.

Not too long after that, K-Line also came out with a Silver F3 A-A set , but the front warbonnet sceme was darkblue & yellow, instead of red & yellow. Santa FE actually DID have engines of this color... It had railsounds and TMCC for 480 bucks. A seperate B unit sold for 130 bucks. A-A set---- K-25304 B unit--- K-2530-0327

I'll scan you a copy of any of these pages and send it in email if you want me to. Just click my email link and ask me to.

Actually CTT did have such an article within the last 2 years.

Lemme go diging, and I'll post back when found....

I'm not sure CTT had an article, but I remember the ad from K-Line described the set in detail. [%-)]

trying to locate an article on the black Santa Fe Super Chief F3
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, April 8, 2005 3:37 PM
Hello, I'm a new hobbyist. I recently came across the Santa Fe Super Chief F3 trains in O scale with the red/yellow warbonnet on a black train body.

Some research and discussion in other forums has showed me that this is not modeled after an actual train, but instead stems from an error in a Lionel catalog from 1948.

I have been told that Classic Toy Trains magazine had an article on this very issue at some point. I would like to read the article, if it exists. I have been looking at the Classic Toy Trains indexes (which are not searchable) and The Model Train Magazine Index search engine, but haven't had any luck so far.

If someone knows of this particular article, could you let me know so that can purchase the relevant back issue?

Thanks!
