He said that the zw shut power down to the throtles only and that the 135 ph breakers are not triping. he is going to try the motherboard reset first and see if it helps. I have to be out of town until next wednesday. so will call him to see how it went. any body in the phoenix,az area know of a local lionel service center? thanks for the input so far. still sounds like a circut board issue to me . they can be very clever at times. does the accessory side power different thru motherboard than the track power strikes me odd that both sides don't shut down.

Bob,

This is the modern reissue of the ZW. The ZW case itself (which is now only a voltage control unit) is so light it would probably float!

The (up to 4) 135 watt or 180 watt Powerhouse fixed voltage supplies (18 volts) attach to the ZW with Molex plugs. The PHs could help keep it submerged!

Before using the ZW as a boat anchor, be sure to replace the cord with a sturdy rope.

St Paul,

Is your friends ZW shutting off or is the breaker on the 135w PH tripping? Can you get some specifics?

Regards,
Roy

The new ZW has a large motherboard inside that does fail now and then. The ones that I've replaced didn't have a failure pattern.

Try resetting the motherboard per the instructions in the manual and then test for voltage on each channel. Once the transformer is reset try it with a load to see if the problem is still there. If it's still present I take it to a Lionel service station for repair.

If you can't reset the transformer send me an E-Mail and I'll walk you through the process.

I'm not familiar with the workings of the ZW but if it is a new unit I'd take it back to the dealer. One check would be to make sure you aren't overloading the unit, try running less of a load.

I talked to a fellow today no computer to use he has the new zw with 135 bricks sometimes the track power side will work for awhile sometimes not at all or will work until he puts a load onto it then will shut all current to tracks off. he says the accessory side will still work fine any ideas as to what to check for?do these new zw'shave circut boards inside if socan they have a break that once it gets warm it seperates causing it to stop power from going out to tracks? or does it have a breaker thats bad somewhere?? will relay info to him thanks for any ideas on this matter.
