OK, It is now time for the gathering of the clans at York so what are these new QSI innovations mentioned earlier in this thread? Can we magically change the number of chuffs without modifying our engines? Can we operate DCS trains with TMCC? Is this a Brave New World? Odd-d

Thanks, Northern. I am not astute enough on this stuff to know what I do have. The engine reverses, there is a switch under the tender that controls it, and the tender does not have a battery. I found a duplicate of the locomotve that had PS 1 and had never been sold; we changed out the battery and I bought it. So now I have two of these locomotives, one with sound and one without. Maybe I'll build a mountain layout and double head them.

I must have a stable full of the cheap systems; I have successfully unscrambled three of them. It is pretty much cookie cutter, precisely follow the receipe type stuff, and the only way I know to do it is to restore them to factory default and start over. But it worked, and having been burned, I am unlikely to let one of them get scrambled again.

I thought fancy command control was the name of the ball game.[8D]

Skyray: if you want a ps 1 system that will work well on a traditional transformer I can do you one better. I have a full proto 1 system upgraded to a QS2+ I can sell you.
If you have the proto one reverse unit you just need the top board, but most likely you do not. Does your engine have a qsi reverse unit? Then you would need just the power supply and top board.
I do not know what the new system will cost but it is to go on a proto one system, not replace it.
email me if you want good sound at a good price and do not plan on doing any fancy command control etc.
PS : 2+ DOES NOT SCRAMBLE IF BATTERY GOES DEAD, NOR DOES A 2 OR AN OLD 1 OR A 3000. Just the cheap system that mth demanded qsi supply them.
I can also unscramble them to .

Neil, got a couple of old Lionel U36B's and a GP20 that I have been thinking of converting to TMCC. They have borads so small now they fit in Beeps. Think I can get them inside the narrow bodies of the U's and GP's.

I have a PS1 Texas Special F3 ABA that I wouldn't mind converting to TMCC if that's what QSI has in mind. Whatever it is, it had best not have a rechargeable battery inside if they want to sell one to me :).

Northern, don't play EBay. Don't trust some of those folks. Keep us informed.

I didn't go to York, is it over?

Years ago, I bought an MTH engine, and was told that I could upgrade it to ProtoSound (PS 1) at the time. Four years pass, the hobby shop died, and I decided I wanted Proto Sound. I tried about five hobby shops, and finally in desperation called MTH. I talked to a very nice lady there who told me how to contact QSI and that they were the ones who made the system, MTH had moved on, but what they had moved on to required specialized locomotive design, and that QSI may still have some of the original boards left. Imagine my surprise when I got on these boards and heard that there was bad blood between them--to hear her talk you would never have guessed it.

I can't find Proto 1 stuff at super low prices--low, yes--super low, not yet. Do you think I should convert the engine that I was looking for a board for, or do you suppose they can install this super tech stuff in a Proto 1 ready locomotive without going to Proto 1 first?

Chief: have you checked ebay, under MTH. I got a brand new 1000.00 Chessie Greenbrier for 500.00 from a dealer who was selling them out.
You need to watch for awhile but they are there. Dave.

Northern, you are right but I seem to not be able to get PS1 engines at a low price. Everyone still wants to sell the things at top $$$$. Maybe that will change.

If you are interested in what will be the new state of the art stuff for 3 railers, be sure and go to the QSI booth at york. It will be worth your time if you want to buy MTH proto one engines at super low prices and put in fantastic control.
That is all i can say now.
