[#ditto] Ditto what Allan said. Lionel's new management team is probably too busy keeping the company afloat to venture out into the Standard gauge waters too much. I hope that I'm wrong, though.

My guess is you won't see new Standard Gauge trains from Lionel .

I wouldn't be too surprised to see MTH do something to commemorate the 100th anniversary, but I don't expect Lionel to do much, if anything.

Perhaps they'll prove me wrong, which would be fine by me because I love Standard Gauge no matter which builder's name is on the box or item.

Ironhorse,

WElcome to the forum. Oftentimes, people bemoan what they think will be the eventual death of toy trains due to lack of interest in Gen X, Y, etc.

Well, Standard Gauge was big in early 20th century but Lionel 3-rail O dominated in 50s and Standard Gauge was not as common. Then in recent years, they marked a resurgence. MTH has some fine stuff and like you said, Lionel stuff would be nice.

They have an irresistible charm and beauty about them.

Anyway, welcome aboard

Welcome to the forum ironhorse061252! [:)]

It would be nice to see them do something like that, but I'm not counting on it. Right now I only have one sluggish and badly repainted engine, but I needed some kind of motive power to go with the spectacular 218 dump car I found at a show in Michigan. I also have a big box of rusty track that I got pretty cheap...... my labor is free![:p] The big problem is I don't have any curve track.

100th Anniversary of Standard Gauge

2006 will be the 100th anniversary of Standard gauge. This will really be a test of the new Lionel management team. If they don't do something spectacular to observe this important event in Lionel history it will show they don't understand their product at all. There should be a Lionel Standard Gauge train set under every Christmas tree in America in 2006. Will they make it happen?
