One thing I've learned is to NEVER use the scroll wheel on the mouse when you're in terrain editing mode / window. That will lock up the program good. At least, it does on my PC.

The user interface is different, but it works OK. It's not really that bad.

Frank,

seeing that you're pretty busy and won't be starting construction soon, use the time to play around with the program a bit. I also used to try to design with Illustrator, as well the Atlas track design program.

Interface of RRTRack isn't up to other pro design products, but it works pretty well. And after a while it seems less clumsy. Specifically, I had very few surprises when i went to start construction. Track pretty much lined up how it was supposed to per my design.

One thing that I have noticed, the program is a bit fragile. It often crashes, or starts acting very buggy. make sure you're saving your work.

Good luck,

Tim

Got my copy of RR-Track today and am anxous to start planning my layout.

I am admittedly disappointed with the interface thus far. While I have heard many rave about it, it seems dated to me. It appears to be a dos program running in a windows shell.

ANyone who wants to reassure me as to how great it is, please feel free to do so.

I had been planning my layout in a drawing program (Adobe Illustrator) and had scaled teh post-war track and switches pretty nicely, however, I though the availability of scaled accessories and true track dimensions might serve me better.

I hope so, as computer layouts will have to suffice for now. I have a full book of work for the next several months which will take just about every waking hour. I probably won't even think about benchwork until summer at best.
