replacing diecast trucks

I'm fairly new at this,anyway I purchased the Lionel polar express set and replaced the engine & tender w/ a tmcc model & I'm thinking of replacing the trucks with diecast trucks?Any ideas on diecast trucks,size,or make? Also does anyone know how to open the passenger cars to gain access to replace the trucks? The wheels now are metal w/ plastic housing.
How hard is it to do?

Lionel also has dicast trucks as an after market item. If the passenger cars are like the baby Madisons I have from a few years back the roof is released by pushing in on two of the windows on each side of the car while lifting the roof. Almost a three hand task. Off hand I don't remember which of the windows.

The 4 wheeled trucks on the Polar Express look lousy and detract from the overall look of the cars. I just got the latest K-line catalog last night and noticed that they sell 6 wheeled trucks that would look so much better on the PE cars. They are $24.00 a pair.

Interesting to note that the Lionel prototype Polar Express cars had the six wheeled trucks. Last year's catalog showed the set with those trucks. This year, the catalog shows the 4 wheeled cars.
