I have 5 sets (postwar 2029 set, a 1960's era Marx steam set, the reissued Lionel Missile set, Lionel Coast Guard set, and a Lionel J.C. Penney 4-4-2 set from a couple of years ago).

I also have 16 diesels locomotives, 4 steam locomotives, and about 20 pieces of rolling stock. Obviously I have a lot of locomotives, need to concentrate on buying rolling stock for awhile.

Here's a good saying for this topic.
More then I need, but not as many as I want.

I have 5 layouts, 1 n scale with three trains, 1 ho, my biggest, with 9 operating trains, 2 o scale, with 6 trains, and 1 g scale, a ceiling layout with two trains. One o scale has the tracks running in and around my Dept 56 layout. My ho layout is the most scenic, a 14 x 24 ft layout. Harold

Ummmmm....I don't know! I went on kind of a buying spree last year. I got a lot more HO steam locos (probably 20) a few diesels and an electric. Picked up some prewar tinplate O (various manufacturers) and a Bing clockwork steamer. I also ventured into Marklin prewar Gauge 1. All this on top of the stuff I already had......I think I need to buy a house.......with a barn! [:p][:p][:p][:p][:p]

I ain't got none.

But I do HAVE many.

Too many to try to count, many of which are still under the layout, as the shelves and tracks are pretty darned full! I'm going to the train-show today to try to clear some of them out...

Two, a BLI J1e, and a P2K Heritage 0-6-0. I have maybe seven pieces of rolling stock, and don't expect/anticipate getting much more.

At some point, I will add another steamer (K4 or a Consolidation 2-8-0), and possibly a modern diesel just to have variety. I don't really want to build up a huge collection that sits in cases or anywhere else but ready for operations. As a retired man, I can't afford to, for one, and for another, I want very much to keep a wide range of interests as I age with my better half. Putting too much into toy trains is not the way to go about it, IMHO.

Diesel
B&O FT-AA, Lionel
B&O F-3-ABA, K-Line
D&H C-420 Lashup #412 + #411, Lionel
B&O SD-35 Atlas
Wabash GP-7, Lionel (Christmas Gift in 1957)

I have more than five. First there's what's left of two postwar sets that belonged to my Dad when he was a kid, including both of the locomotives, and there's a passenger set that he put together a couple of years before he died, and I have a prewar Lionel 259E set and a prewar American Flyer passenger set. Then there's the Polar Express set that I couldn't resist getting. Then there's the early 1960s Lionel Scout set I got because it was $35. Then I've got at least four Marx sets. I like those because they're cheap--a basic Marx set can cost as little as $20. Most of my Marx is really run of the mill but I like it. I guess that's 11 complete trains I could run at once if I had enough track, not counting the loose stuff. I probably can cobble together another train or two just from that.

I really need to lay off on buying trains and concentrate on getting my layout at least looking presentable, even if I can't get it to look just the way I want it yet. It seems like once you get on a roll buying trains, it's hard to stop or even slow down. At least for me it is.

you can never have too many of any kind of toy. i have a dozen engines or so and maybe 50 cars. Say cnw1995 I get to Crystal Lake about twice a month. Maybe we could get together and I could see your layout sometime. I travel from the Bloomington area. John

Welcome crw1993! What are they? I am very fortunate to have five also - the Ballyhoo Circus train, a prewar 248 and 2 passenger cars, a prewar 2-4-2 with litho freight cars, an MPC FA and a long string of plastic-trucked freight cars, and an MPC 2-4-2 with the famed Lionelosi Special - streamlined car.
