K-Line also produced a Girls Set a few years ago.

If it is the original postwar 1587S,last year's TM price guide shows it at $3,800 in excellent/boxed/with all inserts and paperwork.

You might want to search eBay for completed auctions, or check some auction websites like stoutauctions.com to see what recent sale amounts have been (I'd bet prices were somewhat lower than the $3,800 mark).

One other thing to keep in mind, though, is that the set has been reproduced many times over the years by Lionel and other companies, as well as there being many forgeries of the pieces in this rare set. Before selling, it would be advisable to have it checked for authenticity by an experienced Lionel collector.

It depends. Assuming that it's all there, including the track and white transformer(very important, as a replacement black transformer detracts from the value), and in the original set box(not just the individual boxes), the set can be worth from $3000-5000. If you don't have the box, the set's only worth the combined value of the original components, which amounts to $2000-3000. This is, of course, assuming that you have all 5 cars plus the engine, tender, and transformer. Missing track has a negligible affect on value.
