Lionel Part Numbers Needed
Posted by Jumijo on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 7:32 AM
I want to add seated engineer and fireman figures to 2 of my tradional sized Lionel 0-27 steam engines, a 4-4-2 and a Polar Express Berkshire. Most of the Lionel engines I've seen (scale and small) use the same two figures. Does anyone know the part numbers for these figures. A product search on Lionel's site yielded a lot of part numbers, but no one at Lionel has been able to tell me which ones are used in any particular engine. Their tech support center doesn't even realize that figures are included in engines.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jim, after the big parts sale at Lionel a couple years ago, I question whether they are even stocking all the various parts as they once did, espceically with produciton in China now. But when you call Lionel, have the number of the locomotive with the figures in it at hand... that's how they will reference the part numbers.

They probably have a master diagram or listing for the major parts of an item, but they would need the product number to make that search.

Also just a thought, but I know some of the K-Line locos have had engineer figures in them... at least diesels. Maybe their scale steamers have too? They might be another angle. K-Line doesn't have as much history or product as Lionel, so they might know a little more on what parts are available without even a K-Line product number. Same thinking goes for MTH... you'd have to check their catalogs to see.

Thanks, Brian. I will check those leads. An O-scale figure is an O-scale figure. It doesn't have to be Lionel.

There are several other places to buy engineer and fireman figures.

One place is Arttista

http://www.arttista.com

MTH also sells some

Model Power also has a steam engineer and fireman.

Hope this helps

Thanks, Spankbird. It does help. A call to Lionel to order the part numbers I deduced were the right ones was met with a "low quantities" warning from the CSR. She couldn't tell me if my order would be filled or not. Supposedly I'll get a letter in the mail stating whether or not the order can or will be filled. I think I'm better off going with another brand's figures. The ones you posted are great. I'll also see what others have and go from there.

Apparently not! A quick review of Lionel's Parts Supplements 45 and 46 (available online) revealed 10 different part numbers for figures - some with seats, some without, different colors, different poses.

You might want to review the supplements yourself to see which one(s) fit your needs best.

I saw those, Chris. I deduced which ones I wanted, based on what I saw at my LHS. Blue seated fireman and gray seated engineer. I'm actually hoping that Lionel can't fill the order. The Arttista seated figures are way better than Lionel's, and comparably priced. Better seats, too! Too bad I didn't ask this question before I called Lionel.
