Snow for Layout

What do you use for snow on your layout? I need some ideas. [:D]

IVory snow laundry detergant seems like it would work nicely.

Woodland Scenics makes Snow Soft Flakes.

Paint the wood (or what ever) white, and when the paint is wet add the snow. Spray with white glue and and as needed

There are some interesting products you can find around Christmas time - ranging from balls of cotton to huge rolls of white cloth.

I use Woodland Scenics soft flake snow (785-140). It comes in a 32 oz. plastic shaker and I've used over a dozen on my layout. Works well for me ........

I found good results with drywall mud for hard snow; not the fluffy stuff. Add black if you're doing really old city snow. Haven't ever seen anyone do that, unfortunately[B)]

I like the Noch 61164 Snow Crystals. I think Faller makes a version too but I don't know the catalog number for those.

For my Christmas layout I put some Woodland scenics snow over the wet latex paint.
But another thing to consider is what snow looks like after it gets plowed and pushed around. For roads, I painted them dark dray, then put caulking compound all over them. Then I took a paint scraper and scraped off much of it, leaving streaks and lines in the traffic pattern. I then put beads of the caulking on the sides of the rode for plow piles. I sprinkled more snow on the caulk before it dried too.

Table salt works good, the only drawback it causes rust on the vehicles. Kind regards Steve
