I would like some information on a model train that I would have received for Christmas in 1953-54 time period. I remember it had smoke and whistle, unknown on a light. It had a engine, coal car and unknown number of other cars. I would like to locate one if possible.

It sounds like you received a set. Lionel made many sets aroung that time frame. Do you remember any details on the engine such as wheel arrangement or engine number. This would help narrow down which set it would be. Also if you can remenbe the type of cars and color that would also help. Greenberg has a book that list Lionel sets by year. I have the books. If you can provide more details, I can try to look it up for you.

There is a big collector markert for Lionel trains from this period and it is fairly easy to obtain the varios pieces to remake sets.

Let me know what other details you can remember about your set and I will try to find the details in the Greenberg book.

Regards,

Tim Pignatari
