MTH remote transformer control question
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 5:52 PM
Wondering why the Z-1000 100 watt is not available with remote, apparently, whereas the Z750 is.... I'm buying a Z-750 with IR remote just to get the remote feature.... wonder if it would control a Z-1000? I sold my Z-1000s from RTR sets as I don't need them for my size layout, plus wanted remote.

The transformer doesn't matter. The remote talks directly to the IR lock-on which is what regulates the amount of voltage going to the track.. The transformer plugs in to the IR lock-on.

YOu can buy the IR lock-on and remote as an add on item from MTH.

OK - I understand - I CAN run a Z1000 remotely with the IR........but never see the Z-1000 & IR remote packaged for sale as I do the Z-750.....guess that MTH does not provide the larger trans as a package deal whereas they do with the 750..... speaking primarily of eBay sales --- guess people are selling the 750 package from a train set breakout....

I bought a Z1000 with IR and remote at a train show. I would only guess that it came from a RTR set. I believe the larger sets have the Z1000. In years past it had the IR and remote.

That's correct, MTH didn't bundle the remote and IR Lock-on with the Z1000 in RTR sets, only the Z-750 and previously a few Z-500. While the Rialking remote system is good, it's responce isn't that of a controller and I would guess that since most everyone was complaining about the absence of a controller, MTH decided to bring them back. I believe any set that comes with the Z-750 in RTR set is still coming with the Remote IR and Lock-on. I prefer the remote setup for the christmas layout, it's less intrusive.

The Z-1000 brick puts out 18 volts and also has a 14 volt accessory output, comes with a 7 amp circuit breaker. The Z-750 can put out near 22 volts and has a 4 amp circuit breaker..
