lionel transformers
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, February 11, 2005 11:40 AM
Where can I find instructions for a lionel 1033 and RW transformers and how they connect to accessories. I have gates, spotlights and bell signals I would like to connect. I understand the track connection but not sure the best way to hook to these transformers. I will be using each of these transformers on separate tracks.
thanks

Peter Riddle's books on wiring (Wiring Your Lionel Layout; I think the newer edition is called Wiring Your Toy Train Layout) talks all about wiring accessories, phasing more than one transformer, etc.

There's also quite a bit of information at http://www.thortrains.net/manualx.htm and it will probably give you enough to get started. Riddle's books are definitely worthwhile reading though.

Here's a thread that may help, at least for the 1033

Olsen's Toy Trains has Lionel's PW service manual sections available:

Dr. Riddle's book recommends using the 1033's A terminal for common, but that's to run trains at 5-16V and have 16V fixed Voltage available. If you're only using it to operate accessories, I'd recommend using the U terminal for common (same for the RW).
