Celebrating 50 years of Independence Day...
The Seaboard 1776 was released in 1974. The Jeremiah O'Brien was released in 1976, and it's actually a smooth runner.

The "Jeremiah O'Brian?" Now that's a new one on me, I've got the Seaboard diesel but I've never heard of the other, aside from the Liberty Ship. Is it a Lionel? And will it pull the complete "Spirit of '76" series?
Anyway, that's a beautiful shot Fife! Thanks!
8665 Bangor and Aroostook. Uncataloged 1976GP-9 numbered "1776". Uses the same chassis as the SCL U36B.
My personal favorite of the bicentennial locomotives is the 8568 Preamble Express F-3 from 1975. Possibly the best new MPC era paint scheme for this diesel.
Same me, different spelling!
The Sprit of '76 Jeremiah O'Brien set (6-8665) came with a matching porthole caboose, in a special silver box. I see it all the time on the various sale sites. Got mine from Trainz.com a month ago, when they had their free shipping sale. Like I said, my sample is a smooth running, single motor option. Graphics are sharp, but you have to be carefull with the bunting decal on the short hood. It should pull the 13 states set better than the U36B, from my two samples.
And as a reminder, if you pick up any of these MPC era units, completely break them down, clean the commutater and brushes, oil and grease, before you run them.
Thanks Becky and Fife! I'll have to keep an eye out for one of those Geeps, the Seaboard U36 can't manage a pull of all 13 cars plus caboose, even with a good shove. Now if doublehead the U36 with the Geep THAT would take care of the problem and look pretty good as well.
In the meantime I've been pulling the Spirit cars with one of these:

Great advice on the MPC units especially considering how old the lube is in those things now.
Flint - I picked one of those up, like new, at our local train show, for #3 grandson. Another good runner.
Cool! I'll most likely be on the lookout for one at the BIG TCA York Train Show this October. I saw Trainz.com has one for sale for $133 however they're describing the condition as C6. I can wait, I prefer to see engines before I buy them anyway.
Here's the "Freedom Fleet" in action...

You can see how smooth the GP9 runs.
The Santa Fe and Union Pacific units belong to my good friend, Tom.
Flint - Maybe I'll see you at YORK this Fall.
Great video Fife! Loved it!
Yeah, maybe our courses will cross at York, that'd be fun!
I only got to go to york once but I met Chief, Fife, Laz, Hudson John and many others
