Lionel Switches
Posted by phillyreading on Saturday, January 29, 2005 9:44 AM
I have five Lionel switches that will not work with all my locomotives. The problem is in the solenoid or so I think because it only happens with Williams locomotives & older two position reverse units from Lionel, the solenoid goes crazy flipping the center piece up to 70 times a second when the locomotive it don't like gets within two track sections of it, entering or exit side.
This is what I have done; cleaned the track before & after the switch, cleaned all wheelsets, checked electrical continuity off the rails.
Other than replacing the switch in question or using a differant locomotive on
that track I don't know what to do.
Lee.

Hi Lee, do you have the insulting pins on the outside rails for the derailing feature [?]

I think the same, the problem is not the locomotives or e-unit. check the pins.

If you are planing on replacing them, do it with the new low profile K-Line ones.

No solenoids in them, thus no nose.

I am considering buying GarGraves switches for my layout and putting in adapter pins
as I am using a few of them with no problems.
Like I say this problem only occurs with Lionel # 6-23011 & 6-23012 left & right hand switches & any Williams trains or older Lionel trains with a two position e-unit in the locomotive.
