Pondering a new project...

I was thinking how cool it would be to combine two 221 steam locos into a single articulated unit .Can the E-units co exist or is it necessary to slave one ?

You're a braver man than I am!  Bow

Anyway, and just a guess on my part, you could probably run both motors off one E-unit in the manner that a twin-motored Lionel diesel works off one e-unit.

Yes I have to acquire the locos and do some fabrication to make it work!

I'm trying to figure out what that would look like.  An extra long Dreyfuss boiler on a 2-6-6-2 frame!  Bow

Well, 221's are out there and if they've got wear on them they're going for pretty reasonable money.  You've just got to hit the shows and keep your fingers crossed.

Anyway, here's that nice young Mr. Warren from Canada doing some intense work on a 221. I'm sure you'll find this as interesting as I did.

I'm guessing like a Mallet out of a science-fiction story!

E units  can run up to four motors.  I bashed together a four motored A-B-A Alco 200 series rig a number of years back.

Had it pulling something like 28 cars with ease.  Youv'e got to pay attention with throttle movements on a train that long - car momentum and coupler slop add up and can do weird things.
