Beautiful model!  I wish I had the patience for ship models but I never had it.

What's the backstory behind the model?  Is that HMS Hermoine?

Yes it is !built the hull about 5 years ago and ran out of gas so I left it as it is!easier for it to fit into the display case !

Ah, HMS Hermione, the ship with the bloodiest mutiny in Royal Navy history.  It made the Bounty mutiny look like a church picnic.

Dang right I'm gonna chime in!  That's drop dead gorgeous!  . I tried building the Independence a few (20) years back but really couldn't get the hang of board by board hull building.

Yes I had to soak the planks and pin them to the bulkheads and let them dry.Then I applied glue to make the hull,a challenging process!

Admiral Vernon, the namesake of George Washington's Mount Vernon estate!  The original owner was George's older half-brother Lawrence Washington who was an admirer of the admiral and named the estate after him.  Lawrence was an officer in Gooch's Marines, a regiment raised in Virginia for the British expedition against Cartagena during King George's War of the 1740's.  

(I take no little pride in the fact that George's big brother was a Marine! OK, not OUR Marines, but a Marine just the same!  OOO-RAH!   )
