Then I bought another 402 that the seller said runs, serviced, parts not avaiable. It need the supper motor mount, which they sold on there parts site for $5 I bought some other parts also but this turned out to be the best looking I bought and it runs great for least I have spent on one including parts.

Hot or cold isn't really the question, the thing is how much fabric softener should you use?

The repaints will be stripped using citus scent zep industrial cleaner, doe a real good job using it full strgenth. not sure how it would react to plastic though. 

The keeps as they are warm water with mild dish washing detergent ( I use dawn ).

The inserts with the seats attached I will not touch as they look good as they are.

This is my Prewar set #403 which consist of a 0-4-4-0 402 Electric one of the largest engines Lionel made back then, with large passenger cars 418 Pullman car, 419 combbination car, & 490 Observation car. 

Here is where I'm in the strip down, first the engine

Finally the Observation car, Just notice I forgot to get the end of the car in here as it is still in the polishing area

 

Hope to add more as I go. the main reason for the engine is that it will match the cars. This set is from 1923. The Observation car is missing two brass steps and the Pullman car four brass steps, as I do have them but they also are in my polishing area.
