Its sunny and 19 degrees here. At least its above zero. We had snow and high winds here during the last 2 days, with wind gusts up to 45 mph off the lake. Not too far to the south there are blizzard conditions. We still have over 30" of snow on the ground. We are approaching an all time record for snow fall for this winter. Its likely that we will break the record in a few days with an even bigger storm coming through.
In spite of the date this is no April Fool's Day joke.
I hope that folks down South are safe. It sounds much worse than snow.
Last report is that "Deuces" is doing well. Still no hint on her name.

Woo-Hoo! Bought a new car yesterday, a Kia Soul! It reminds me of the PT Cruiser (The "Battlecruiser") I used to have. Easy-in, easy-out so I don't have to squat and roll into the driver's seat as I have to do with the Hundai Accent. The squat and roll is getting old! Lady Firestorm's been driving a Soul for almost ten years, a tough car and she's never had a problem with it.
So now in addition to the euphoria of new car ownership I've got a case of new car jitters. You know, you pick up the new car and then scream at the other cars on the road to stay the HELL away from you? At least for two weeks? I'll get over it.
Of course, it's got the current car dashboard and instrument panel that would do credit to an F-22! That's gonna take some getting used to! I'll suppose I'll do what veteran fighter pilots do and turn off the things I don't need.
Since it's got a "Steel Gray" exterior I'm going to call it "The Silver Shadow," being inspired by that Lionel ACL Hudson I've got of the same name.
And wouldn't you know it? I bring it home yesterday and it's raining today!
Anyway, I've got a new chariot for my York trip! Woo-Hoo!

Good MorningRavioli last night for dinner. Got the new battery for the road runner - still under warranty, so I got a better battery for nothing. Power steering still leaks, not happy but I have an idea, I'll check it later. I kept the old P/S pump, so I may look at that to see if my theory is correct, otherwise, I'm looking at another $100.Jenni is finishing up another portrait, we need to hit Palm Sunday service tonight after work if she feels up to it. And figure out dinner. Not sure of tomorrow's activities yet. If the weather is nicer, I'll work on the road runner.
Monday I have a 10 AM grave side service to attend (ladies auxiliary member) and then softball practice at 6. Hope to squeeze in a trip to the upholsterer to have them inspect the convertible top. Rear window looks REALLY bad. Jenni has the oil heat service coming to her house.It's been slow - down 23 cars from last week, so I took that opportunity to get the rest of the Christmas decor up into the attic. I have a few more items to put upstairs on display but we should be ready for Easter by tomorrow. No invites from the family, so I may just go to Jenni's parents next week. Well, I bought another standard gauge set 403, the one I already have is from 1925 - 1932, this one is from 1923/24, way to know is passenger cars only have 4 wheel trucks, in 1925 they went to 6 wheel trucks.

Mornin' guys and gals. Sunny and 32 to start with, then gettin' to the 70's today. I need to get three rows of flox into the front hillside today, then mulch the whole works by mid-week.
Spent yesterday afternoon at the chapter caboose, cleaning out clutter from the cabinets, with chapter prez. Then we had a late lunch at local sports pub, as we were both spouse-less this weekend. Came home and watched the Richmond race.

Unfortunately, I am feeling poorly on my first day back at work after a week off. Some sort of bug. Boy, I have a lot to do - and feel like I can't be sick.Congrats on the Kia Soul, firelock. We were fortunate to buy my wife a new Kia Seltos - kind of like a mini-SUV. She wanted to graduate from a 'mom car' - boy, is it every electronicized. But it runs really well. I like our decade old Kia Sorento that is still going strong. Though it is the kind of Kia that is most getting stolen these days. Sigh.

Yeah, that's a rotten shame. Luckily we don't have that much of a problem with car thefts where I live. But what I do when I'm on the road and staying at a hotel I've got a little gadget I call "The Scarecrow." It's a small LED light array slightly smaller than a pack of cigarettes with a magnfiying light cover that can be adjusted to various configurations, I picked it up at a train show a few years ago. After dark I turn it on to a one-second flash, put it in an area of the car where it illuminates but can't be readily spotted and with its green lens it looks like a car security system from Hell! Maybe it helps, maybe it doesn't, but our cars have never been bothered. See if you can find one, auto parts stores may have one or something similar.

Haven't heard of any Kia thefts in my complex (and there are a lot of Kias in our lots) but I do see at least one car at least once a month driving off without it's catalytic converter.

Yeah, it's a rotten shame. In some parts of the country catalytic converter thefts are becoming endemic. The thieves are after the precious metals in the converters and make money selling them to unscupulous scrap dealers.
Why a scrap dealer wouldn't get suspicious if a guy comes in with a sawn-off CC is beyond me!
I haven't heard of it happening around here, thank goodness! The last thing I need is to post guard in the driveway all night with a fixed bayonet!
I'd guess you'd find more chop shops than reputable parts/scrap dealers in "the hood" communities of larger cities.
Not that I live in the hood mind you! . But the gangs do come over to my quiet part of town to rip off CC's and then take them back to the "hood" (look up hough riots) where they cash in. The Kias on the other hand are being stolen because drug dealers go after the most popular and therefore most inconspicuous cars to use and dump or chop.
As long as the punks don't try to get my Lionels they won't end up with a few extra holes in their bodies.

Sometimes that doesn't help anyway. I've lost track of the news stories I've read where drug "mules" get caught because of stupid driving mistakes on their part such as:
Speeding, illegal lane changes, not signaling turns, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, burned out lights, and other traffic violations that are instant invitations for the police to pull you over.
Man, if I were them I'd make sure all the lights worked and I'd drive like an old lady on the way to church! But then again the mug shots of these idiots tell you they're not exactly candidates for a MENSA membership!

Hi all, been chasing all over and taking care of the pup who had surgery yesterday. She got fixed, had a dewclaw removed, got her Kennel cough shot and a chip. Knocked her down hard for about 30 hours but she is picking up.
My Kias and some other off shore cars are being stolen because they are easy to steal. An easy hack, anyone can watch on youtube or TicToc and you can drive them away. I hear State Farm and other Ins co. will not insure them here till the makers fix the issue. If they do insure them BOY get ready to lay out the $$$$$$$. Crimes of opportunity are always out there. They see one they jump on it.

Mornin' guys and gals. Overcast and 64 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Ms. Kelly returning home this evening, so my bachelor days are now down to hours. I've been living like Oscar, but now I'm scurrying around like Felix trying to tidy up.
Here is this week's project, which involved tearing out a section of Blue juniper, and planting creeping flox, then "frosting" the entire finished hillside with mulch.
Of course I was trying for this, but baby-steps, I s'pose...
We took a trip to New Orleans last week with the high school robotics team I mentor for a competition. We were successful, too. The team won the competition. They are currently rated 23rd out of about 3200 teams worldwide. In a couple of weeks, we will be headed to Houston to compete in the world championships.
My wife and I took a couple of days to drive home on a route that largely avoided the interstates. Took the two lane highway that crosses the east end of Lake Ponchitrain. The highway runs parallel to the railroad across the lake on low piling type bridges. At the shipping channel, the train crosses on a lift bridge, and the highway gains some altitude up to a draw bridge.
Many of the small towns we drove through had a business district that ran down one side of the highway. Railroad tracks ran parallel to the road through some towns, and there was evidence of a railroad grade parallel to the road in other towns.
Happy Good Friday, peeps! Cloudy and 52 in the Potomac Highlands. Wifey is back in Fifedom, and all is in order again. The fam is headed out to see some kind of Dino exhibit, in Morgantown. I'm staying behind on dog duty, but I did clean, detail, and fuel the Durango for their journey...
