Reversing units (E Units)
Posted by workhorse52 on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 9:07 AM

New to the form (first post)

I have a American Flyer Sku: CS 6400106001-P electronic E-Unit. Does anyone have wiring information on this unit?

The unit has:

2 red wires

2 black wires

1 brown wire

1 gray wire

1 blue wire

1 white wire

I want to replace an older mechanical E-Unit with this one on a series wound motor (not DC)

Any help would be appreciated.

You would have to run the field with a FWB rectifier with the AC input leads wired in series with the armature to run the motor with the DC output of that reverse unit. It is possible, but it does draw a lot of current and does not run as well as with the 3 position mechanical reverse.

A much better solution would be to use an off-the-shelf purpose-built reverse unit like this one.

Try DALLEE Electronics in Lancaster (?) Pa. their #400 should work just fine. they advertise in CTT or just google them. Have used their stuff many times for customers.
