Fife - Pencil me in for a 2065 -

Me too!  I've got one and wouldn't mind a few more!

Or another 2056 for that matter!

I'd say I already have a 6110... but actually I have two. Sort of. One of 'em is strictly a parts engine that I've already started salvaging from. The other runs as good as I could get it.

If Fife's campaign is taking engine requests...
I'd never say no to a 682 myself, but one of the postwar engine I'm dying to have most might be a 2378P. I have the 2378C and near all the other components of the 2378W, of which most came from the same store. But that's a story for another time. Any dual-motor GG1 would put a big old smile on my face too, naturally...
I'm also on a bit of a hunt for the 0647LTS pacific and 0647W tender. In my opinion, Lionel's highest end HO locomotive, period. If it's "half O", that means I get two, right? Laugh

Mornin' guys and gals. Sunny and a frosty 27 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Sisters-in-law and niece coming to the mountains today. Should be fun...

Sorry to announce that my bid for Dog Catcher came up a bit short. Exit polls indicate my past with HO and N scale may have swayed the electorate. Thanks for your support.

Afternoon,

Nothing much trainwise going on...(mainly taking it easy on train-stuff until after the  holidays, as hard as that is to do.)

The leaves have covered parts of the driveway...My dad says he'll blow them off. (I've blown leaves before)  and of course I went with my dad to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore this morning to pick up some gray cabinets that he bought for inside the house.

Oh, before anyone asks...No, I did not run for office in Traintown....

Mornin' guys and gals. 54 and Storm,Storm, and oh yea more Storm. Relatives heading home after breakfast. Blueberry pancakes and sizzling sausages, I'm told. We dined out downtown last night, at City Lights. Always a pleasant meal there.

Chipping away at the North Pole Village. Lots of cutting with a hot knife. I loathe styrofoam boogers.

And a big THANKS to all Veterans!

Good afternoon, where is everyone??????

Been running just trying to keep up with everything let alone this place. Have had the grand-pup for a week, had the grandson last week. My high school pal from Denton TX was here for a three day visit and had to keep the dog from trying to take him out. They started to get along by the time he left. Laugh Then today woke up to 3" of that white stuff. Down to 13 Friday night,,,,was 78 last week. WTH???

Got a 9570 baggage car, swapped out the base and trucks with that Williams 2530 repo and now have a fine looking and good tracking 2530 baggage car to go with the set of four 2500 series passenger cars I got in that package deal last summer. Yes Something had to be screwed up with those trucks on that other car, beats me.

Pulled the #50 Gange car into the shop. it was acting strange and after a look I found the pick up roller had a huge grove in it and was not getting pick up. So I ordered that and some new workers from Jeff Kane along with a list of other parts for projects and did a cleaning and lub and will finish that up when the parts get here.

Dog wil go home tomorrow, Shotgun seasons opens for Friday-Sunday and out here in the woods there are plenty of trigger happy idiots so she wil be safer at home on the postage stamp yard. Smile

Bout it from the North Bluff,, got to stock wood on the porch. Wink

I've been trying to fix someone's Bachmann G-gauge 4-6-0, and it hasn't been going well. Feeling ready to give up, after putting in all the effort I did. They sure made/make these things cheap.

A more succesful endevor was using lead balancing weights to improve the traction of my little Lionel 0055 switcher. Before, the most cars it could pull without loosing its footing was about 4-6 cars, maybe 7 if they were all very light weight. But 2.5 ounces later, it can pull a reasonably heavy 10 car train without running into trouble.

I was all ready to go and do the same thing for my 41, and then remembered that it has a weaker motor than a normal O gauge diesel, and trying to increase its tractive effort might do more harm than good.

Wow, that's gonna be one good Christmas layout!  I'm getting dizzy just looking at it!  A lot of action in a small space!

My Christmas layout's pretty conservative, two loops around the tree.  It's not quite time yet to get the layout boards out of the Chugger Barn just yet but I can wait.  For some strange reason they seem to get heavier and clumsier every year!  Might be getting time for a re-do...Hmm

What kind of G Gauge 4-6-0 is it, the battery operated one with the remote or the track power one?  I have a battery powered one that gave up the ghost a while back and I wasn't able to get it going again, it's been in the attic for years.

I've also got a track power one that wouldn't work, then I ditched the lock-on and soldered the wires to the track.  THAT did the trick.  Something was wrong with the funky lockon.

I might try the battery one again and if I can get it working unload it cheap at a train show.  If not, it's off to the dump.

It's a track powered one. I got it running, but it doesn't run well. There's some sort of weird binding issue. I had to repair a split bushing on the geared axle, but that went well and it seemed like I'd done a pretty good job. But yeah, something's not quite right and I had such an awful time trying to work on it, and then getting it back together again... I don't want to have to reassemble it again, once was more than enough for me.

I actually own one of these, and I decided to test it after this one showed itself to be not working as intended, despite my repair effort... and turns out, some time between the last time I ran it and now, that one has ceased functioning. Absolutely nada when you hook up leads to the wheels. What a drag!
But hey, I got that thing for free- it could have been worse.

-Ellie

PS: had no idea they made a battery version. For the record, my lockon doesn't work too good either, and imho the track is absolute garbage. If you're thinking of getting into G gauge... do yourself a favor and talk to LGB Bang Head

I concur on that Bachmann track, it's really cheap steel and rusts easily.  I've got some LGB brass track but the small Bachmann transformer that works with the steel track won't work with the brass!  Too much resistance in the brass I suppose.  I haven't tried it with the Lionel AC to DC converter I've got and a more powerful transformer, at least not yet.  Maybe I should, it's been years.

The Bachmann battery powered set came out around 1989 or 1990 and actually didn't last on the market very long.  I can guess why.

Mornin' guys and gals. Cloudy, 35 with snohizo along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Been dealing with a family matter. Also, Fifey's flatscreen took a dump. LG 43" now in place. Picked up some decor for the Chapter caboose, and will show it to the crew at the Business meeting tonight. Still chippin' away at the North Pole layout.

Good Morning Folks,

29 degrees and cloudy this morning.  We have had about 6 inches of snow here in the Twin Ports with a possibility of a bit more this morning. Some places up the North Shore have gotten over 12".  Time to do some snow removal today.

I've been doing some sorting among the boxes in the collection.  I have way more than I remember. Also working on photographing the items that are in boxes so that I have a better reference to what is in each box.  Yup, snow storms bring out the incentive to address some of those tasks in the train room.

Have a great day

Houston, we have a Christmas tree.  The rest of the layout work is gonna be on hold till Monday.  My neighbor helps me go shopping on Sundays and I want to pick up a bag of Buffalo flakes to dust the rug.  I figure that would be easier and less wheel binding than laying down the blanket kind of snow.

The original Bachmann Big Hauler.  Yes!  I had one!  I remember two things about it: 1. I got the whole set for 20 bucks because it had been the store display.  And 2. It was the last thing I can confirm I bought at Kiddie City.  I later painted it black and installed Lionel pick-up rollers on the tender to run it using LGB track.  How did it run?  Meh.  Confused

A memory that haunts me to this day, is of visiting a flea market, and one of the sellers had this very significant quantity of LGB equipment. IIRC, the asking price was $75... for everything. I didn't have enough money with me, and there was no way for me to get more.
I'm a postwar fan at heart (not that I don't love and adore prewar), and generally I stick to the 'classics'... but to pass up on a deal like that you'd have to be insane... or very unlucky with how much money you walked out the door with that day.

These days, I try to be a bit more careful! Wink

Uh-huh, been there, experienced that.  One of the things Lady Firestorm and I learned long ago is if you're going to a flea market, antique show, train show, or any kind of show is if you think you're bringing enough money bring more if you can!  You never know what you're going to see.

Although sometimes  you really get lucky, like the time we were at the DC "Big Flea" in Chantilly VA and I scored the K-Line Hershey 100th Anniversary set for $85!  Complete and unused!

I'm not a G Gauge fan but I would have pounced on that LGB assortment myself!

Wow!  6 pies!  You've got your work cut out for you!

A friend of mine was saying how one year her family had a big Thanksgiving get together, and everyone coming was supposed to bring something to add to the dinner. Somehow things got mixed up and everyone bought pies - more pies than people!

Actually doesn't sound bad....Dinner

Kevin you have to do what you have to do. Big Smile

Monday I went to the V.A. in Asheville, N.C. for an eye exam. Well it turned into being sent to and eye specialist out in town for laser surgery on my left eye as my retina had a tear and I needed laser surgery right then. Told I couldn't drive home after surgery. So wife and I had to spend the night in a motel. ( she can't drive because of her stroke a few years ago and she has never had a drivers license. )

Other wise not a lot going on here. Got a deal on some tools today, Radial Arm Saw, Table top bandsaw, and a scroll saw. $200 Big Smile

Love flea marketing.  Believe it or not, I went to the big Hartville flea a couple years back and had my choice between a KW, two ZWs and a prewar type Z for 50 bucks each.  I went home with the KW and have loved it ever since.  (For those who may be wondering, a ZW wouldn't have fit in the space I had for a transformer at the time.)  But I do regret not forking our the additional 15 bucks for the MPC pineapple vat car!  Wink

I'm sorry I didn't get more Williams Ramapo Valley Creamery cars, but how was I to know they'd only make 'em for one year?  The Ramapo River's in the part of North Jersey I'm from so I grabbed the car I've got at a Greenberg show.  I've been looking for others but no luck so far.

PS:  There never WAS a Ramapo Valley Creamery but the car looks so cool!  This is the HO version, the O Gauge one looks just like it.

If I had a dollar for every model I had which didn't represent a prototype... well, I might just have enough to go out and buy another model that doesn't represent a prototype.

Mornin' guys and gals. Sunny and 29 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Need to change the train room lighting from night, to daytime. The blue and black lights only stay up for 1 month each year. My Halloween train is on the shelf, and the Santa Flyer train is on the High Line. Will be swapping out orange and black rolling stock for red/green/white.

Spent yesterday reviewing trail-cam photos from this past summer...2000 images...need to change the setting/angle. Delete,delete,delete...woof. Our mangie black bear, Fuzzy Wuzzy, visited us on 9/1/22. he had a bit more hair, and was a bit heavier than last year, but he obviously survived.

Cloudy with peeks of sun today.  Very breezy with the temperature hovering at about 17 degrees.  I have no complaints when I hear the reports of the weather back east.

This will be a good day for sheltering in the train office in the lower level. The 31/2 year old is coming to spend the night so that means he will help Papa play with the trains and help with (dis)organizing things down there.

These are from a previous play day.

I too am expecting a budding toy train enthusiast soon... Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and some family will be coming over, including a certain little cousin of mine who enjoys trains. Another cousin of mine may likely also be there, and every time she comes over and the trains aren't set up, the disappointment is immesurable... I intend to spoil them rotten this Thursday!

I didn't think I'd have this much luck, but I managed to score a very exciting piece this morning... a Lionel 0059. It was the HO counterpart to the 59 Minuteman in O gauge. And like the O gauge version, it was exclusively a seperate sale item- one of the few HO husky-types never included in a set. Like the O gauge counterpart, it is a rare piece- it was only cataloged one year, 1962, and like the O gauge model, it was exlusively a seperate sale item. Most of Lionel's husky-types came in at least one set. It is also the only husky type made between 1959 and 1966, for which there was no matching caboose ever offered.
It will need a lot of cleaning, but I have high hopes for it. I just hope the motor's still good...

Mornin' guys and gals. Sunny and 18 in the Potomac Highlands. It will feel downright Paradise when the temps hit 50 today. Hope the Mrs didn't pack away my Hawaiian shirts already. Youngest Princess will be coming home today for Thanksgiving break. Good, I've missed her.

Made good progress on the North Pole Village. Next up is applying insulation strips and cork to the underside, to protect the floor.

Ellie - I kinda like 0059 in its "weathered" appearance. YesCool
