Just never know until you try, right?
Great job! By the way, I tried a shell-swap with that RS-3 and a Williams GP9 I've already got and it's not going to work, the RS-3 shell is too shallow for the Williams motors.
However, as long as I had it apart I added extra weight to the RS-3 and now it's pulling a lot better!
WHY didn't I think of that sooner?
Yes I agree that Williams engines are great pullers!I took a Williams FM Trainmaster chassis and put a custom painted and decaled Lionel Trainmaster body together and it is a stump puller; efficient too ;takes very little voltage to get it moving at a nice clip.
Great job! I've got a Lionel RS-3 myself in Susquehanna livery, a J.C. Penney special run. Looks good but isn't a good puller even with twin motors to begin with.
I'm mulling over if maybe, just maybe, I can fit the Lionel shell on a Williams GP9 frame like I did with a Lionel Jersey Transit U36CH. That was a success with a little "chopping and channeling" of the shell. Williams diesels are great pullers and darn near bulletproof.
This is a plastic framed ex Construction Zone RS-3 that I had added a second power truck and a 3 position electronic E unit I repainted it in NYC livery and pulls very well .https://youtu.be/Fa5QlXekSYM
