A Young Hobbyist Needs Help With My Lionel Horse Car And Corral
Posted by brigpup on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 4:42 PM

Hello everyone,

I am a very new hobbyist and have my very own 5 by 9 fastrack layout that i worked on with my grandpa. my problem is i recently bought a new version of the Horse Car and Corral from the postwar celebration series. I also purchased a fastrack operating track. when i hooked up all of the purchases i was releieved that the corral worked fine. I was dissapointed that my Horse car would not work properly. My cars doors go down but do not vibrate enough for horses to move throughout and when removed from the track the doors dont go back up. I am trying to think of solutions but i am unsucessful. Is there anyone who can help me or has been in this situation?

There is a clip attached to the opposite door that when closed stops the horses in their track. Make sure that door is open so the horses can come out. The doors go down so that's a start. Does the car vibrate? The mechanism floats on springs that allow it to vibrate smoothly. Make sure nothing is froze up that prevents the track from vibrating. Try taking the body off the car and assess that everything is operating properly.

The car vibrates but it does not vibrate enough for the horses to move throughout . They just back up onto the corral

i also tried hooking up the track to its own power and it sitll didnt work. Also the doors dont come down on their own even without power.

I feel pretty confident that in order to solve your issue, you'll need to open the car up (or have a professional do so if you don't feel comfortable). Without a diagram at my disposal to see what the mechanism looks like for the Postwar Celebration Series version of the car, my initial thoughts are:
-something is misaligned somehow, and inhibiting the vibration of the horse's walkway
-the doors need to be adjusted and/or lubricated
The fact that increasing the voltage does not seem to help the issue, makes a strong case for the fault being with the car's mechanism.

I have an original postwar version I've been working on... my car works great, it's my corral that the horses get stuck in.
