A friend who owns a hobby shop has offered me a good deal on a Sunset Models/3rd Rail brass CN 4-8-4 with Lionel TMCC (from around 2009), but when another friend helped me test the locomotive with his TMCC system, the locomotive didn't want to respond to commands from the remote. However, it did run in conventional mode. We tried a few different numbers, but the wheels have absolutely no wear on them, so we aren't sure if the locomotive has ever been run, or was instead just put on display on a shelf.
Is there a way to reset the TMCC without taking the loco and tender apart? I really don't want to send it back to Sunset Models for them to fix it, unless I get a screaming deal on it. Thanks for any help.
