AF 21160 Armature
Posted by copakeflyer on Friday, February 18, 2022 3:04 PM

I recently purchased two very rough AF 21160 Engine/Tender. The first one came to life after simple service. On the second unit the armature insists on moving up and down as it rotates. This rotation does not occur on the other unit and the up and down movement locks everything up. I have about 25 AF engines in my collection and understand this should be the simplest to put back in service. Any help welcome.

I think you're missing a thrust bearing.  The exploded diagram that I have seems to show parts PA10766 "Armature Spacer" and W1A92 "Washer" as possible candidates.  You're lucky to have an apparently functional unit.  Just compare the two motors to see what's different or missing at the ends of the armature shaft in the one that doesn't run.

I will compare for both. Thanks Mike Nelson
