  1. With the removal of the (_ _ _ _) from the (_ _ _) trailers in 1976, (_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _) names and (_ _ _ _ _) began appearing where “(_ _ _ _ _ _) Lines” and “Cooper - (_ _ _ _ _ _ _)” had to use separate (_ _ _ _ _) plates to give the loads identity.
  2. From (_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _) Pacific on the 9333 car to the (_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _) Railroad on the 16303 and north of the border with the 9149 (_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _() Pacific to everywhere in between, Lionel covered many of the class 1 railroads that were household names throughout the 20th century.
  3. To highlight just a few, the No. 9383 (_ _ _ _ _) Pacific was an (_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _) car from 1980 and was also the only one included in the (_ _ _ _ _ _) (_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _) Railroads series.
  4. Similarly, the No. 19404 TTX of 1989 was the only (_ _ _ _ _ _ _) style car in the (_ _ _ _ _ _) (_ _ _ _ _) series.  And while the Western (_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _) vans did represent a class one that had been merged into another railroad company, the flatcar itself was lettered for (_ _ _ _ _ _ _) Train, which represented the future of American railroading rather than the past.
  5. Made for the Toy Train (_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _) Society was the fairly (_ _ _ _ _ _) and highly collectable No. 17871 New (_ _ _ _) Central car of 1987.  This uncataloged car differed from most in that it carried non-matching trailers.  One represented the (_ _ _ _ _) Corporation of photocopier fame while the other wore the logo of the Eastman (_ _ _ _ _) Company.
  6. (_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _) Northern once again became the first road name used on a new intermodal car by a new Lionel owner in 1988.  A (_ _ _ _ _ _) fifty-three foot “Big - (_ _ _)” trailer finally had a way to ride the tinplate rails and brought the Lionel Lines into the future.
  7. Of the “(_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _) wheeler” oriented cars, several rigs now carry the banners of fallen flags that weren’t at the time the car was made.  Two that have become more collectable in recent years are the No. 16378 (_ _ _ _ - “_” - _ _) with Geoffrey Giraffe and the No. 19411 Nickel Plate Road car from 1992 which hauled a (_ _ _ _ _) trailer.
  8. On the brink was the No. 16383 (_ _ _ _ _ _ _).  With the trailer lettered for the railroad’s (_ _ _ _ _ _ _) service, “Big Blue” was soon to be divided between (_ _ _) Transportation and (_ _ _ _ _ _ _) Southern Corp.  Speaking of the Chessie - (_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _) company, the uncataloged No. 19425 of 1996 with an “(_ _ _ _ _ _ _)” trailer makes a colorful addition to any collection.
  9. From 1990 to 92 Lionel offered a new flatcar with 1:48 (_ _ _ _ _) proportions, but only (_ _ _) road names were cataloged.  The No. 17502 (_ _ _ _ _ - _ _) let western Lionelers recreate the “World’s Fastest (_ _ _ _ _ _ _) Train”, the “Super C”, which was inaugurated on January 18th, 1968.
  10. The others were the Nos. 17503, 4, 5, 6 & 7 Norfolk Southern models which were identical except for car and trailer numbers.  Part of (_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _) Line set No. 6-11718, the (_ _ _ _ _ _) (_ _ _ _ _) Service trailers were led by the No. 6-18689 (_ _ _ _) 8-40C to let (_ _ _ _ _ _ _) railroaders recreate a (_ _ _ _) train they likely saw every day.
  11. In 1989 Lionel introduced “the biggest, (_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _), and baddest accessory” (to quote Roger Carp) to load and unload the ever expanding line of tractor trailers; the No. 12741 “(_ _ - _ _ _ _)” intermodal crane.  Released first as a yellow Union (_ _ _ _ _ _ _) model, it was followed by one lettered for Norfolk and (_ _ _ _ _ _ _) in 1990-91 and later by SP and NS models.
  12. Making headlines in the 1980’s were the (_ _ _ _ _) and front (_ _ _ _ _ _) cars being built for TTX.  Lionel entered the field with the No. 16321/22 (_ _ _ - _ _ _ _) TTUX set in 1990.  All came with trailers and a fourth (_ _ _ _ _) so the cars could be separated.
  13. Of the more collectable TTX cars are the No. 19416 (_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _) Central (_ _ _ _) with that railroad’s “pig on wheels” logo that was only available as a (_ _ _ _ _ _ _) Station Special, and then uncataloged No. 52014 BN with N & W trailers made for (_ _ _ _) in 1993.
  14. 1993 was also the year Lionel introduced the No. 16360 N & W (_ _ _ _ - _ _ _ _ _), the first cars designed to transport shipping (_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _).  With a modern diesel on the point, and good old “(_ _ _ _)” bringing up the rear, the Lionel Lines was ready for 21st century (_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _).

  2. From (SOUTHERN) Pacific on the 9333 car to the (PENNSYLVANIA) Railroad on the 16303 and north of the border with the 9149 (CANADIAN() Pacific to everywhere in between, Lionel covered many of the class 1 railroads that were household names throughout the 20th century.
