Who has made SD40-2 ?
Posted by Boyd on Wednesday, January 19, 2005 12:06 AM
I know I have seen them listed somewhere and don't think it was Lionel. Who has made scale 3 rail SD40-2 engines. Are they still made? Do they work & perform well. I have seen the SD40 (non dash 2) that Lionel made in I think the late 80s and wasn't impressed by it and its carbody being too wide.

Modeling the "Fargo Area Rapid Transit" in O scale 3 rail.

Lionel's website ( www.lionel.com ) shows the following:
18299 CP Rail
28224 Jersey Central
28524 Chessie
28523 Soo Line
18298 UP Desert Victory

In addition, Lionel also offered SD40T-2's:
28452 Rio Grande
28451 Southern Pacific
28225 SPSF
These units were somewhat controversial due to incorrect placement of the trucks.

MTH's website ( www.mth-railking.com ) shows a bunch of Premier SD40-2's - too many to list here. Just search for "SD40-2".
