If you can't make a satisfactory staked attachment, try filing the bosses down, leaving just enough metal to align them with the square holes in the sheet-metal bolster.  Then drill and tap the bosses, and screw the bolster to the side frame from the top, using screws with a head wide enough to grip the bolster.  If this reduces the clearance between the truck and the floor too much, you can file the screw heads down somewhat after installing them.

Remove the motor truck from the chassis & re-stake the side frame to the motor top plate. With the truck removed, you can see the other side to compare.

Hello folks,

I have an Lionel F3 diesel that I received recently and during shipping it seems that one of the side trucks came off. I'm trying to work out how to reattach it but it seems more difficult than it initially appears. Anyone got any tips/ideas? Pictures attached.
