This is a 1962 set.

The price guide and my copy of the Standard Catalog of Lionel trains say the 3820 was in this set. but I have been coming across those who say the 3830 was in the set.

I've already been talking to Carl and have gotten this from him, but now we're both curious if there were sets with the 3820 and some with the 3830. Here is what he sent back to me

"I checked with Joe Algozzini, a postwar expert who wrote about Lionel for 1962 in our recent special edition, “Lionel Trains of the 1960s: The Ultimate Guide.”

He noted the submarine car was the 3820 U.S.M.C. in olive drab. "

I have both the 60 and 61 catalogs and in the 60 it claims the 3830 Operating Sub car in Blue is new that year. So if your set is before 1960 it can't be a 3830 . I also see that the they say the 3820 never came with it's own box only in the"Land, Sea and Air" gift pack set from 1960 # 1805 where all of the cars were green. Page 17. I guessing your car should be the blue car. It was in many sets in both years???

If so did you get it new?

If so which Sub Car was included.

Lionel records say 3820 ( U.S.M.C. olive green flat car) but I'm running into some saying there's came with 3830.
