BABY, IT'S COLD INSIDE!
67 WORDS

BEWARE BACKWARDS ANSWERS

  1. This is a look at the explosion of Lionel (REFRIGERATOR) cars from the 1970’s and early 80’s: the (MPC) era.
  2. The Nos. 9850 (BUDWEISER) “King of (BEERS)”, 9851 (SCHLITZ), “The Beer That Made (MILWAUKEE) (FAMOUS)” and 9852 (MILLER) “High Life” cars used the (TOOLING) developed in 1954 for the No. 6672 (SANTA - FE) (MECHANICAL) refrigerator car.
  3. Like the three (REEFERS) advertising popular brands of (BEER), three other cars were (UNCATALOGED) in 1972.  The Nos. 9855 (SWIFT ’ S) (PREMIUM), 9853 (CRACKER) Jack, which had a (CARAMEL) body in 1972 which became (WHITE) in 1973 and an update to an icon.
  4. The No. 9854 (CURTISS) Baby (RUTH) finally put the name of “America’s (FAVORITE) Candy (BAR)” on a (SEMI - SCALE) sized car.  It was the first of (SEVEN) cars of this type which included the Nos. 9816 (BRACH ‘ S) Candy and 9817 (BAZOOKA) Bubble Gum cars of 1980.
  5. Some may ask why (BALL) Glass jars, (FRITOS) corn chips and Arm & (HAMMER) baking soda (car Nos. 5705, 9884 & 9812) travel in (COOL) comfort while (SPRITE), (TAB) and (FANTA) (car Nos. 9743, 9744 & 9745), three (COCA - COLA) products, traveled in ordinary (BOXCARS) in 1974 & 75.  (PEPSI) Cola came cold in 1982’s No. 9831.  Just sayin‘.
  6. Using tooling purchased from (RIVAROSSI), the Nos. 9802 Miller, 9807 (STROH ‘ S) and 9825 (SCHAEFER) beer cars plus the Nos. 9809 (CLARK) Bar and 9805 (GRAND) (TRUNK) Western 1:48 (SCALE) cars were probably ahead of their time.
  7. Three of the eight cars from the No. 6-1585 “75th (ANNIVERSARY) Special” of 1975 honored “breakthrough (ENGINEERING) developments” on the No. 7502 car, “most popular (ENGINES)” on the 7503 and “Lionel company (SIGNATURES)” on the 7507 model.
  8. In 1981 Lionel produced (WEATHERED) 5700 series cars which included the Nos. 5707 American (REFRIGERATED) Transit, 5701 (DAIRYMEN ‘ S) League and 5703 North American (DESPATCH) “(FRIGICAR)” plus an uncataloged version of the No. 5700 (OPPENHEIMER) Sausage Casings car produced for the Ozark division of the TCA.
  9. The Favorite (SPIRITS) reefers are great for this kind of puzzle because there are names like (WOLFSCHMIDT), (TANQUERAY) AND (SAMBVCA) (ROMANA) (car Nos. 9847, 9843 & 9844) to challenge you with.  Especially the spelling of the 9844 car.
  10. Personally I like the cars from the (BURGER - KING) set.  The Nos. 7509 (KENTUCKY - FRIED - CHICKEN), 7510 Red (LOBSTER), 7511 (PIZZA - HUT), 7512 Arthur (TREACHER ‘ S), 7513 (BONANZA) and 7514 (TACO - BELL) blend well with the Nos. 8160 GP-20 and 6449 (WENDY ‘ S) N5c.
