Simplify 6019 wiring?
Posted by stuartmit on Saturday, January 30, 2021 10:44 AM

I know that you can supply 6019 uncoupling tracks with constant voltage by cutting the fourth wire and running it to a constant voltage source. i have imagined that powers the magnet for uncoupling but I may be wrong, because it seems to me one side of the magnet is hardwired to a solder lug attached to center rail. So I must be wrong because that would temporarely connect the center rail to two power sources.

so what do I not understand is whether  I can reduce the wiring to two spst push buttons connected to 2 wires only to the unit for uncoupling magnamatic couplers and activating milk, lumber coal cars, etc.

Actually, one side of the magnet is hardwired to the frame of the track - outer rails. The other side is wired to the left control rail.

You can use a DPST button to activate "Uncouple", energizing both control rails and the magnet, and another DPST to activate "Unload" by energizing the left control rail and grounding the right control rail.

Or, you can combine both functions into a DPDT center off (On)-Off-(On) momentary switch of your choice.

Thanks for the diagram but I Can't agree with schematic When I look at my 6019 unit

if wire 4 on right is input for "hot" line, is wire 2 the source of the Hot to the magnet? When I look at my unit, it seems like on my unit the magnet is factory connected directly to the center rail not the outer rail of the track as you describe.

Your schematic shows wire 3 connected to right control rail alone;'my unit has factory wire to right  control rail AND factory wire from that right control rail to other side of magnet.

so i am at a loss;  look forward to seeing yr reply

...so i am at a loss;

There are two wires coming out of the magnet on a 6019:
- 1 has insulation and is soldered to the left control rail with wire #2.
- 1 is plain enameled wire and is soldered to the frame of the 6019(which is the same as the outside rails).

This picture matches exactly the schematic above(click on image for full screen view):

I see one problem immediately. On the schematic representation, the left control rail is on the left of the schematic. In your photo the left control rail appears on the right. The reason for that is the schematic is from above, and the photo is from below which is how I am used to looking at these things and trying to figure out what's going on with the wiring.

Thanks for clarifying. Now I have to repair wiring. Still want to figure out how to build a magnet in in the proper location so that I can uncouple a milk car, a coal car, or a log car and leave it perfectly positioned for the slider shoes to be on the control rails to allow operation of the car.
