I "motorized" the Lionel 460 Piggy Back Transportation Set from 1955-57 & 1961.  The set originally had manually operated controls for lifting and rotating the forklift.  I didn't have room on my layout for the footprint of the platform, so I cut off the ramps and manual controls.  I used two 10 RPM miniature geared motors and pushbuttons for CW, CCW and Up-Down.  Here is the video:
