Spent quite a bit o' time in the train room this past week.
This mountainside is next to Romney Yard. The foil protects the operating milk platform, and I use foil to protect the trackwork when I'm painting and gluing. It's at this point I bring in the Youngest Princess for tips on highlighting and shading.
While searching for scenic material, I came across 3 wooden dowels. I cut them and sanded them down to make 6 poles for my empty AF 911 gon. Sam's inspecting the new load. The youngest grandson won't be impressed, as I glued the dowels together...
What size dowel did you use? I have a naked Flyer gon of my own that needs a load.
Same me, different spelling!
Half inch, maybe a hair less.
A wee bit late but here's something new to my Plasticville layout:
Nice! Now I want a Red Ryder BB gun even more!
Suppose they were still making them in 1955?
And Fife, good thing you explained what that aluminum foil was doing on the layout. I might have thought you were trying to bake a potato using track voltage.
Don't know if they were still making them in 1955, but you can go to Amazon right now and get one.
What I often talk about wanting is my old 1939 Crusier Columbia bike. I inherited it from my older brother at some point, and that bike went everywhere. No 3 or 5 speed, just a good crank and chain with a Morrow brake for stopping. Had a fork lock and coil spring fork. I used it on my paper route till I got a Rollafast, but my brother and I often talk about that bike.
Another Ralphie item that was at my mother's house till I cleaned it out was one of the winter coats with the fur collar. Same color too. The Christmas Story is a classic, and my nephew even looked like Ralphie when he was his age. I still have my brother's Daisy BB gun; came from selling Xmas cards out of an add that was in Boy's Life. That was in the 60's.
With it being the Christmas season my daughter this year wanted a train for under the tree. On Sunday I dug out the train set I gave her 20 years ago. While getting it out I came across a gift box I had some old Lionel catalogs in. The 1956, 58 and 59 catalogs. You know you see Marx trains out there and all, which I love, but some of the simple starter sets from the Lionel catalogs I mentioned I like now too. There is something about the simplicity today with all the highend stuff they are making. I have the 210 Texas Special set from 1958 and the 1959 General set. I remember my brother carrying the General set out of the place we purchased it. It was at that point I realize Santa had helpers.
While on the subject of toys, it was only six or seven years ago that I cleaned out my mother's house. Structo, Tonka, Buddy-L, Matell, Remco, Marx Tin Plate garage, Hasbro; our parents invested in toys for us. My mother loved Christmas and we went to church 2X before we could open a gift, well maybe one on Christmas morning. My mother died at 96, and this would be her last Xmas 10 years ago. Miss her everyday.
Merry Christmas All
I saw a whole pallet of Red Ryder BB guns at Wal-Mart today! Not lying!

Wow! Looks like "A Christmas Story" gave the Red Ryder BB gun a whole new lease on life!
Good thing it didn't so the same for leg lamps.
