Yes we found that out. Ready to Play track is unique to Lionel. They did it to make the extra buck. Its still available online.

Lionel made two versions of The large-scale Polar Express battery operated set. The first one that came out many years ago operated on and included G Scale Track. That meant you could use any G Scale Track and it would work on it. Think they got greedy at some point and decided they wanted to make you buy only their track. So they came out with a new ready to play set and it runs on a special gauge track. You can only use the Lionel track for the current set.

Unless you bought the set second hand or had it a long time ago and are just using it, you most likely have the new ready to play set , and you will need to buy current Lionel' brand track.  It's available in many places online. Just do a Google search for Lionel "ready to play" track.  If you have the original box it came in, the earlier model clearly said G scale train on it. The current model says "ready to play" set.

See if you can order these from www.Lionel.com:

straight track, 4 pack :  7-11039

curved,6 pack:  7-11040

right hand switch:  7-11110

left hand switch:  7-11111

they Also made three separate sale cars:

boxcar

tank car

flat car with cable spools.

good luck !

Not too familiar with current G gauge, especially in Lionel.  Is that set battery powered and runs on plastic track?

The reason I'm asking is I'm not sure who might carry Lionel expansion plastic track, however the train should run on any brand of G gauge track.  The chances are other G gauge track's not going to be compatable with Lionels.  Anyway, if there's a hobby shop in your area that sells G gauge they should have track of some kind in stock.

No-one local?  Try these folks:

Try asking the question on the "Garden Railways" Forum as well if you haven't done so already, they're the real G gauge experts!

My grandson has a ready to play Polar Express large scale set. It uses what I believe is ready to play G gauge track. He wants to get the layout around the Christmas tree but doesn't have enogh track. Anyone know where I can find some Ready to Play Track. BTW, is this the same as ready to run track?
