Agree with above comments. Some roling stock may not compattible. Lionel Postwar locos typically have worn out or broken truck springs that could be your issue.
What is the brand and model number of what is derailing?

Get your eyes down to track level and push the locomotive by hand over the crossing. Watch the wheels of the front and rear trucks as they go through the crossing. The flanges of the wheels may be riding on the bottom of the crossing tracks, causing the wheels to lift up and then derail.
What locos do you have? Post the numbers on them.

Please forgive my ignorance, I am new to the hobby. I am trying to design a layout that goes around three walls of a 12 x 16 foot room and I am having trouble with 90 degree crossing tracks derailing some of the small wheeled trucks on my locos, and sometimes even uncoupling cars. I have tried several models of crossing tracks, Marx and Lionel and still have trouble. Most layout diagrams I see incorporate these things in them, I assume I am doing something wrong, but what? Any help or suggestions are much apprciated.
