Found this Atlas lC boxcar at my local Hobby Shop...had cheap plastic 2 wheel trucks and was way too light.I added aluminum plate weights and a crane cab for fun while I await the new Lionel diecast sprung trucks.
Atlas made some nice rolling stock and it certainly can be used for 3 rail operation. Adding weight can't hurt but I've done quite a few retrofits of metal trucks on different brands of rolling stock and find that's all they need to add more stability.

These were among the very first Atlas O gauge vehicles, made by Roco in Austria, I think. They were good scale models but the painting and lettering was a bit basic. I have two Santa Fe passenger F9s, two gondolas and a four wheel caboose.
However some errors occurred, which nobody has mentioned yet in this thread...
In the IC logo, the dot is over the "C" rather than the "I"...
This was a very common variation only corrected in later production.

Yes it is odd considering how precise the Austrians are ..doesnt bother me as I bought it for 12.50 a couple weeks ago!
