American Flyer Store Displays
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 10:12 AM
Back in the 50's, AC Gilbert often had 2 piece 5 X 9 foot layouts in stores that showcased many of their operating pieces.

I'm just curious to know how many of these original layouts survive.

The reason I'm asking is that my dad bought the store display from the Phelps Dodge Mercantile store in Morenci Arizona around Christmas 1952. He also bought two train sets consisting of a K335 and a 283. I was 6 years old at the time.

I still have the layout and most of the trains that he bought for me over the next 10 years or so. Lately my interest in American Flyer has been renewed and I would like to find more details and photos of these early store layouts.

You might want to check out this site http://www.acghs.org/ of the AC Gilbert Heritage Society.
