I didn't turn on my computer yesterday, but did spend most of the morning watching trains on July 4th on youtube tv.

I was 10 during the Bicentennial, and it was such a big deal.  My-oh-my, how the times have changed.  I hope things will improve by the 250th...

And times certainly have changed!  As to the 250th, I'll just have to wait and see.

Speaking about the Bicentennial, many great memories:

I was 20, and off to Europe. This trip involved a cross country journey on Amtrak, Los Angeles to New York.

2 weeks in the U.K. With a Brit Rail pass, 2 months on the continent with a Eurail pass.

The trains in Europe have become increasingly deluxe.

Amtrak is about the same...
