American Flyer question??
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 4:10 PM
I recently moved and I had one of my early American Flyer wind up locomotives damaged (broken wheel). I understand that thewheels where made of lead, but cannot find anyone/place that can repair it?? I have 18 other wind-ups by AF and really want to repair this ASAP to disply in new home. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.....

I have never heard of lead wheels. If the wheel is lead, a careful craftsman should be able to get it back together. If it is, as I suspect, zinc, it is almost impossible to solder. I have successfully repaired a cleanly broken prewar zinc wheel with cyanoacrylate (super) glue, using lots of finger pressure to get a tight fit between the parts, and can now run the locomotive. With luck, you might be able to do so too. If you don't want to run it, you can very likely make it presentable if not runnable (especially if you turn the broken side to the wall).

What about american flyer parts places. The R F Garidenia (sp?????) has tons of parts. I got a brand new DC armature for my 332 DC engine from them. The DC aramatures have a green dap of paint on them vs red for the ac.
Check on a search engine. Dave.
