A member of our local Jeep club gave me their old family train set today. Very dirty, mouse nest in the baggage platform room, but a very nice set with the 2035 steamer, several cars, 1033 transformer, operating gate man, baggage platform and a few other bits. Still have to bring the 1033 and track home, along with several plastiville buildings. Could only fit so much in my wife's Maxi-Scooter. The rest is in my Jeep while it gets a new engine installed at the club mechanic's house. Already have the engine running, even the light and smoke works. Both marker lights even survived the years with no box, no wrapping around the engine. Mike the Aspie

That's a great engine! I searched, but eventually ended up with two. All the 675, 2025,2035 types are really nice. Hefty Buggers!

I had a similar experience when I was handed a box of rust in the mid 90's. Inside were the remnants of a standard gauge set from (probably) 1917. It had a figure eight of track (some sections had brass wire clips), a complete but amateurishly overpainted 112 lake shore gondola, the remnants of a 117 caboose (no roof, walls caved-in) and the shell of a #33. I repainted the gon, tried as best I could to straighten the walls of the 117 and made a roof and cupola out of sheet aluminum, picked up some M.E.W. wheels and other various parts , cleaned the rusty track and mounted a Marx O-27 motor inside a basswood box bolted into the 33 shell:
That 33 is out of service at the moment awaiting the disposition of the REAL motor I picked up a few years back:
I gave up on the 117 and used it's frame to create a "museum car":
I repainted the 112 to dark red with a light gray-olive interior and added LL keystone plates and it sees regular service:
It's amazing what one little act of kindness can create:
Oh yeah, the same guy gave me a box of O31 track and just look at the trouble THAT caused!

Their famly and ours have become fast friends since we met them a few months ago. They helped get the new diesel engine hauled from the far side of Illinois to central Indiana thats going in my Jeep Wrangler. They are cleaning out their 3 car garage and knew I was a train nut.
