Lionel 1615 Engine with Coal Car
Posted by mark7096 on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 5:48 PM

Hi I have a 1955 or so Lionel 1615 Engine and a connecting Coal Car from my Dad. I am trying to find out a realistic value. An example is found on this website: http://postwarlionel.com/motive-power/steam/switcher/1615-switcher/

Thanks for any help!

Welcome  aboard!

The last price infromation I've got is the David Doyle "Guide To Postwar Lionel Trains" from 2007, but here goes.

The 1615 0-4-0 steamer was produced from 1955 to 1957.  The price guide lists it by condition as "Very Good- $125, Excellent- $175, Like New- $275."

Mind you, those prices are strictly guidelines, so take them with a grain of salt. Prices on "like new" post-wars seem to be holding, but prices on lesser condition post-wars have been dropping in the past few years.

Hope this helps.

I bought a like new one with grab irons on the engine and tender this March, and I paid $90.   Looking at sold items on Ebay, looks like anywhere from $80 to $100 is the average. Good to mint in the Greenberg book list at $135 to $268 for the grab iron style. No grab irons on the engine and tender sell for less
