Although I have a permanent layout, trains on that layout are primarily run by me and a couple preteen grandchildren. The younger ones as well as the older ones much prefer dumping a box of loose track on the floor, creating a layout of their choosing and running trains around the track just like their fathers and grandfather did when they were young. Of course there are derailments and rollovers but we can all remember those experiences ourselves and I think the equipment they operate is used to it. Good memories for all.

I have had a carpet central in our den for 2 months now. I keep changing motive power and rolling stock and as my wife told me its great therapy for me after working online at home all day. This is longest layout I've kept up and the way things are going I may get to run all my equipment before its over.

I have a permanent layout that I have enjoyed operating for over 20 years now, but sometimes I will run across a track plan that I would like to build and try out, even if I didn't keep it from now on. Floor layouts are perfect for that sort of thing. You can build a different layout every day if you have the track and switches.

He makes really good vidos. I have always heard standard gauge was really noisy, even on sound deaening carpet.

That's why you need hardwood floors.  Wink

Welcome back, Mr. Smith.  Always enjoyed your "musicalcraft" videos.

What's next for you?

Since I moved about 1 1/2 years ago I had to take down my postwar Lionel layout.  I have purchased lots of wood and I'm about to start building a new 027 Lionel layout.  I will post updates as I get going.

Carpet Central's are lots of fun, only restriction is the size of the room or the amount of track one has.   Thanks for posting

Oh so cool!  Thanks for sharing this!

And 100 years old no less!  Anyone care to hazard a guess as to whether any of the current production trains will still be running in the year 2120?

I have to ask, did you get right down to floor level and watch the train come right at you  like we all did as kids?  I still do, on the Christmas tree layout anyway!
